KEY FINDINGS

Note: Biome and ecoregional statistics were gathered using the WWF Terrestrial Ecoregions GIS Database (Olson, D. M. and E. Dinerstein. The Global 200: Priority Ecoregions for Global Conservation. Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden 89:125-126.). For the purposes of current assessment we combine several biomes together: dense tropical and subtropical forests (group of the tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests and tropical and subtropical coniferous forests biomes); temperate broadleaf and mixed forests (group of the temperate broadleaf and mixed forests and temperate grasslands, savannas and shrublands biomes), boreal forests (group of the boreal forests/taiga and tundra biomes), tropical and subtropical woodlands and savannas (group of the tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas and shrublands, flooded grasslands and savannas and Mediterranean forests, woodlands and scrub biomes). The temperate coniferous forests and montane grasslands and shrublands biomes are used as in WWF database.
