IFL mapping team

The world IFL map was prepared in 2005/2006 under the leadership of Greenpeace with contributions from: Biodiversity Conservation Center, International Socio-Ecological Union, and Transparent World (Russia), Luonto Liitto (Finnish Nature League), Forest Watch Indonesia, and Global Forest Watch, a network initiated by the World Resources Institute. The IFL mapping criteria and methods were originally developed and tested in Russia (Yaroshenko et al. 2001; Aksenov et al. 2002). We greatly appreciate the number of remote sensing data interpretation specialists, GIS technicians and regional experts who provided invaluable knowledge and assistance in the development of this map.

The IFL Mapping Team is continuing to improve the IFL base map and to provide periodically updates as new data, technologies, and more sophisticated sources of information appears. Local experts could play an important role in map improvement and update providing the latest information and comments for their regions of expertise. We welcome specific comments about the data, especially reports from regional experts on specific areas where the IFL boundaries are not correct.
